Produce The Final Opel Plant in Antwerp

Final Opel PlantEverything comes to an end sometime. Sometimes unpredictably and sometimes inexorably. This is the case precisely. We talked about what happened in the plant that Opel is located in Belgium, more specifically in the town of Antwerp.
For a long time had already been speculating that something had to change (for the better, of course) for the factory of the mark in the renowned Belgian town remained open and (most important) place. The brand’s sales have been declining steadily and with that downturn unwanted and not so unexpected, it has finally decided to close the plant in those days. Since early 2010 emphasized the growing possibility that it finally happened and the thing has been absolutely confirmed last October 2010.

That is why in recent days has made the last car in the Opel factory in Antwerp, and that is irreversible as you can imagine.
We see in the photo illustrating this note: the last unit produced has been an Opel Astra GTC version, with the unit number 13,306,292 since the factory was opened to produce cars back (nothing more and nothing less) 1924. Opel Ampera (2012) 1.4 16V

Renault Fluence EV, iOn Peugeot, Nissan Leaf…next year will mark the final landing of electric cars. Are the size they are, they all share a ‘default’ common: you can not go over 160 miles without recharging. However, Opel will sell an electric model that does not have this drawback: the Ampera.

How do you get? Using a small gasoline engine that is not used to move the car, but acts as a generator of electricity. The downside is that this means that, unlike the models mentioned above, the Ampera not completely ‘clean’ and have a minimal pollutants -50 g / km CO2, half of an efficient turbodiesel as the VW Golf Bluemotion- although, in contrast, does not suffer the problem of autonomy of other electric models.

Moreover, the Ampera is similar to any compact, ie has enough features for traveling, offers the same equipment as any other modern car. But inside is limited to four passengers and their luggage has 301 liters capacity more typical of urban models.
Inside and outside

The Ampera be sold with a single configuration, which is shown on this contact: 150 hp electric motor combined with another heat of 82 hp, automatic transmission, four-door body-not scheduled a family-and a single finish will have almost everything as standard, but has not yet been confirmed.

The car started to manufacture the end of 2011 and the first units hit the market in early 2012. The steering wheel, controls, style dashboard, interior reminds all other Opel models, although the Ampera used as the polycarbonate material in the center console and door panels to reduce weight. The quality is good, but lower than an Astra. Read the rest of this entry »
