3 Funniest Car Commercials of All Time
The human race’s love affair with cars started shortly after the first models rolled off the assembly lines. And even today, when they’re practically a necessity for daily life, cars have a place in the fantasy lives of millions. No doubt you’ve dutifully inspected your gutter guards or raked the yard while day-dreaming of hurtling along a winding seaside highway in a hot convertible. Car makers exploit the fantasy element in many of their advertisements, sometimes with hilarious results. Here are three of the funniest car commercials ever.
1. Mercedes E Class. This car is hot, it’s sexy, and in this commercial, it takes a supporting role in the cheesy one-minute soap opera playing out on the screen. But in the end, you can’t help but take the side of the handsome Mercedes driver who knows more than he lets on.
2. Kia Soul. A posse of gangsta rapping hamsters. Common household appliances on wheels. Street scenes. What does this have to do with the cute Kia Soul? Who cares? This is one of the cutest and funniest car commercials ever produced. Dare you not to tap your feet.
3. Toyota Vios. Not only is Toyota the car company of tech savvy drivers who love quality engineering. Apparently it’s also the choice of mythical water monsters, as one hapless jogger finds out when he checks out a Vios up close.
People think of their cars as much more than just a device to get them from Point A to Point B. Cars have played a role in daydreams since the middle of the 20th century, when car commercials started airing regularly. Advertisers take advantage of the daydream potential of car shopping, and occasionally give us hilarious commercials that do exactly what they’re supposed to: keep us thinking about a particular make and model.
Which States Have the Cheapest Car Insurance?
Chances are that, as you sit in front of the computer gathering online insurance quotes for your vehicle, you may be wondering what types of factors contribute to your particular car insurance rate. There are many different factors including what type of car you drive, your age, your driving record—even where you live. That’s right—states have different car insurance rates! So let’s take a few minutes and discuss which states carry the most expensive car insurance and which come with a cheaper price tag.
Insure.com recently did a total comparison of state car insurance costs, and it’s their data we’ll be referring to. The survey took the average insurance rates from six major insurance companies and found that the most expensive states were: Michigan, (average policy rate of $2,541), Louisiana ($2,453), Oklahoma ($2,197), Montana ($2,190), and Washington, D.C. ($2,146). According to Insure.com, the least expensive insurance rates were from: Tennessee ($1,146), Wisconsin ($1,128), Maine ($1,126), South Carolina ($1,095), and Vermont ($995).
If you do the math, you’ll see that the most expensive state insurance is 255% more expensive than the least expensive state. The reasons are varied. The main reason for the vast difference has to do with uninsured motorists. If a state has a large number of uninsured drivers, their insurance rate will be much higher in order to cover accidents in which uninsured motorists are involved. There are other reasons as well having to do with weather, personal injury protection caps, etc.
As you can see, location has a lot to do with how much you’re going to pay each year for car insurance. So if you don’t like the insurance quotes you’re getting and could stand a change of scenery, think about moving to Vermont, South Carolina, Maine, Wisconsin, or Tennessee!
